For the right patient, this can be a very strong option. However, the fitting still needs to be carefully verified and fine-tuned. More advanced technology does not automatically mean a better result if the hearing aid is not programmed properly.
When We Might Recommend Oticon Intent
We may consider the Oticon Intent when a patient wants speech support without losing too much of the natural sound environment.
It may be suitable if:
- You move between varied listening environments throughout the day
- You need to follow group conversations rather than just one speaker
- You value natural sound quality
- You dislike a heavily processed or narrowed sound
- You have good residual hearing and can make use of a broader soundscape
- You want to maintain spatial awareness and environmental cues
- You have previously found strong noise reduction fatiguing or isolating
For some people, the Oticon Intent can feel more balanced and comfortable. It may not always provide the strongest single-speaker focus in very noisy conditions, but it can offer a more natural and flexible listening experience.
Why Real Ear Measurement Matters
At The Audiology Place, we use Real Ear Measurement, or REM, as standard when fitting hearing aids.
REM allows us to measure what the hearing aid is actually delivering inside your ear canal. This matters because every ear is shaped differently. A hearing aid programmed only by software estimates may not provide the correct amplification for your hearing loss.
This is especially important in the high frequencies, where many important speech sounds sit. If these sounds are under-amplified, speech may remain unclear. If they are over-amplified, the hearing aid may sound sharp, harsh, or uncomfortable.
