FAQs

1What do you offer?
As a Sydney Independent, we offer a broad range of services and support. We can help with any brand of hearing aid, and are happy to discuss options. As a diagnostic clinic we also offer APD, Misophonia, Tinnitus and Hyperacusis support.
2Do I need a referral?
You do not need a referral to see us, however if you would like to claim on medicare you will need one. Medicare only partly covers SOME of the services so make sure you ask before you see us.
3Does Private Health cover anything?
This really depends on your coverage. Every plan is different. Some cover a lot of the cost, others cover nothing. Make sure you ask your health plan.
4How much does it cost?
Wax removal is $150, a Hearing Test is $230 and full diagnostics for complex issues can be up to $350.
5Can I bring my old hearing aid?
Yes, you can but how much we can do with it depends on the brand. We can help with any brand, however some require more attention than others.
6Can you fix Misophonia/Tinnitus/Hyperacusis?
This really depends on what type and how severe it is. We can say though that it will get better.

Meet Dr Signe Steers

The Audiology Place offers independent hearing care to patients across Sydney. We focus on diagnostics first. With no ties to hearing aid manufacturers and no sales targets, every recommendation is based purely on what's right for you.

Dr Signe Steers brings nearly 20 years of clinical experience and a Doctorate in Audiology from A.T. Still University. Her research has been presented at the World Health Organization, and she lectures in audiology at The University of Sydney. This depth of expertise shapes the diagnostic approach at the clinic: thorough assessments that go well beyond a basic hearing screen.

Testing includes pure tone audiometry, speech-in-noise evaluation, tympanometry, acoustic reflex testing, and extended high-frequency assessment when indicated. The goal is a complete picture of how your hearing functions in the real world, not just whether you can hear a beep in a soundproof booth.

Independence matters because it changes what happens after the test.

The clinic is based on Sydney's Northern Beaches, with patients travelling from across the city for genuinely impartial advice. Dr Steers works with everyone from newborns requiring early intervention through to adults navigating age-related hearing changes or workplace noise exposure.
