Audiology Services
At The Audiology Place, we offer comprehensive hearing health care for individuals of all ages, from newborns to older adults. Our services include full diagnostic hearing assessments, hearing aid fittings, and ongoing management of hearing loss. We use evidence-based methods such as real-ear measurements and speech-in-noise testing to ensure each hearing aid is precisely tailored to the individual’s needs. In addition to hearing aids, we provide support for tinnitus management, Auditory Processing Disorder (APD), and wax removal. Every patient receives a customised approach, with plenty of time set aside for education, counselling, and long-term care.
Led by Dr Signe Steers, an experienced audiologist and university lecturer, The Audiology Place is an independent clinic not owned by a manufacturer or chain. This means our recommendations are unbiased and focused entirely on what’s best for each patient. We are registered with Medicare and the Hearing Services Program (HSP), allowing eligible patients to access subsidised services and devices. Located in a soundproof, calm clinic environment in Forestville, we pride ourselves on delivering professional, family-friendly care that prioritises both clinical outcomes and patient comfort.
Results
Once the hearing test is complete, your audiologist will present you with a thorough explanation of your test results, with plenty time for you to ask questions and gain a full understanding of your hearing loss and how it relates to the problems you are experiencing. You can take a copy of your test results home with you on the day, and a full and detailed report can be sent to your GP or specialist.

Earwax/Cerumen removal
via microsuction
Microsuction is one of the safest and most comfortable for the patient. It is performed using a special microscope and low-pressure medical suction device to suck any wax out of the ear canals very gently. It is a safe procedure as instead of putting water into the ears to flush out the wax; nothing is put into the ear in micro suction, only sucked out, making it safe even for people with eardrum perforations or other foreign objects that may be present in the patient’s ear canals.
It is recommended that the patient use ear drops/spray for at least the 3-4 days leading up to the appointment. The recommended product at The Audiology Place is CleanEars, an easy-to-use, all-natural olive oil-based spray. Without using drops to soften the wax, the ability to remove the wax safely diminishes, and in this instance, the appointment time is still billable.
If the patient has current ear infections or cold/flu/COVID symptoms, please wait until these have cleared before the patient attends an appointment.
Common symptoms patients may describe when they have an excessive earwax build up:
- Troubles hearing where they normally would
- Ear aches
- Itchiness in the ear canals
- The sensation of blocked ears
- Popping, crackling or other abnormal sounds
- Tinnitus or ringing in the ears
- Feelings of being off balance
