Introducing Charlen Lavoie

August 17, 2025

We’re delighted to announce that Charlen Lavoie, MScS (Audiology), has joined the team at The Audiology Place. With more than two decades of experience and a long-standing connection to our clinic director, Dr Signe Steers, Charlen brings a wealth of knowledge, compassion, and continuity to the Northern Beaches community.

A Shared History with Dr Signe

Charlen and Signe’s professional paths have been intertwined for over 20 years. Having first worked together in the early 2000s, they have collaborated across several clinics throughout their careers, always sharing a common goal: delivering exceptional, personalised hearing health care. This reunion at The Audiology Place feels like a natural step forward — a chance to bring that shared vision back to the community in a fully independent, patient-centred setting.

A Career Built on Care

Charlen began her journey in Canada, completing a Bachelor of Language Sciences at the Université du Québec à Montréal (2000) and a Master of Health Sciences in Audiology at the University of Ottawa (2002). After leaving Canada, Charlen has worked in the UK and has now worked at several clinics in Australia.

Over her 23 years in practice, Charlen has supported children, adults, and families with their hearing health. She is known for her compassionate, patient-focused approach, ensuring that every person she sees feels heard, understood, and supported in their hearing journey.

Returning to Independence

For Charlen, joining The Audiology Place is about more than just a new role — it’s a return to independence. After years in larger corporate clinics, she is pleased to once again be part of an independent, patient-centred audiology clinic where decisions are made with patients’ needs at the heart of everything.

“Being back in a community-focused clinic like The Audiology Place feels right,” says Charlen. “I’m thrilled to be working alongside Signe again and to continue providing the kind of care that really makes a difference to people’s lives.”

Serving the Northern Beaches Community

Charlen is especially excited to reconnect with the Northern Beaches community, where she has worked with patients for many years. Fluent in both English and French, she brings warmth, expertise, and accessibility to her care, ensuring that families feel supported at every stage of their hearing journey.

With Charlen on board, The Audiology Place is stronger than ever in its mission: to provide truly personalised hearing care, free from corporate pressure and tailored to the needs of each individual patient.

Dr Signe Steers Audiologist
Welcome to my clinic. With nearly 20 years of experience, I have dedicated my career to enhancing the hearing health of individuals across all stages of life, from infants to the elderly. My passion for Speech and Hearing Science was sparked early on, driven by the understanding that improved hearing significantly enhances education, behaviour, and overall well-being. My career has taken me from presenting research at the World Health Organization to working in rural communities in the Philippines, where I helped developed systems that improved health and educational outcomes for disadvantaged populations. Last year I completed a Doctorate in Audiology at A.T. Still University in Arizona. Dr Signe Steers (Peitersen) holds a Bachelor of Speech and Hearing science from Macquarie University, Sydney, A Masters in Clinical Audiology from Macquarie University Sydney, and a Doctor of Audiology from A.T. Still University Arizona. Signe is a full member of Audiology Australia and Independent Audiologists Australia.
